Play-Based Learning Science

Children discover math, science, and literacy through hands-on guided inquiry, aligning directly with Oregon kindergarten standards.

Tailored to Each Child

Teachers observe how your child learns best, adjusting daily activities to nurture their specific passions and social confidence.

Spacious Year-Round Play

A dedicated 1,000 sq ft indoor movement arena opening to secure outdoor turf gives children room to run, rain or shine.

How Children Truly Learn

Play is the child’s brain at its most powerful.

Decades of developmental research—from the Harvard Center on the Developing Child to the National Association for the Education of Young Children—confirm that young brains build the deepest cognitive pathways when actively engaged in guided play.

Intentional, Guided Play

Play-based education is not an unstructured free-for-all. Our educators intentionally scaffold learning environments where building blocks teach balance, water tables introduce fluid physics, and dramatic play expands complex vocabulary.

Children hypothesize, test, and solve problems naturally.

Aligned with Kindergarten

Modern Oregon kindergarten standards are built around cooperative, play-based inquiry rather than silent desk work. By learning through play at Harwell, children transition into kindergarten with high emotional confidence, active listening skills, and genuine enthusiasm.

School readiness through confidence and joy.

Tailored to Your Child's Needs

Every child possesses a unique developmental rhythm. Because our teacher-to-child ratios are low, our educators observe and customize daily experiences—giving patient extra time where a child needs support, and offering new challenges where curiosity takes off.

Individualized pacing, milestone tracking & care.

Campus Spotlight

Space to run, jump, and play in every season.

Pacific Northwest weather shouldn’t keep children sitting all day. Our Beaverton campus features a 1,000 sq ft all-weather indoor movement arena—reimagined from a historic fire station engine bay with high ceilings and cushioned flooring.

The large rear bay doors open directly to our secure, fenced outdoor play park, giving children continuous room for gross-motor balance, tricycle play, and fresh air on sunny and rainy days alike.

A Note from Director Veronica

Director Line: (503) 568-1883

“My goal for Harwell Beaverton is to be the place where every child runs through the door with excitement, and leaves at the end of the day feeling capable and proud.”

Early childhood is not something to be rushed. It is when children learn who they are, how to make friends, and how to navigate new challenges. That is why our teachers take the time to learn your child’s unique personality, what makes them laugh, and where they need extra gentle support.

Whether comforting an infant during morning drop-off, guiding a toddler through gross-motor games in our movement arena, or facilitating collaborative preschool projects, our teaching team treats every child with deep patience and warmth.

My door is always open to our families. I personally conduct each campus walkthrough so we can talk about your child’s routine, answer all of your questions, and show you our vibrant classrooms firsthand.
